Brian and Dorothy Jackson have farmed Bilton Barns Farm since 1981. Bilton Barns is a 390 acre mixed
farm located just outside the seaside village of Alnmouth on the Northumbrian coast and only 4 miles
from the famous market town of Alnwick.
Three-quarters of the acreage is in arable crops, wheat, oats and oilseed rape. Most crops are sown
in the autumn and harvested in August and September. There are summer grazing cattle and cattle which
are also over-wintered for other farmers, chiefly hill farmers from the Rothbury area who send
fattening animals to Bilton Barns Farm from November to May.
Bilton Barns is lucky to be home to many different types of British wildlife and game. Pheasant
and partridge can often be seen strolling across the farmhouse lawn or hare and deer running
across the open fields. If you are fortunate you may catch a glimpse of a barn owl or if you
are extremely lucky, catch a sighting of a red squirrel, there are still some around in the
Alnwick and Alnmouth area.
With increased interest in fresh, seasonal food and how it's produced, you may like to have
a chat with Brian who will be glad to show you around the farm and explain the realities of
farming and modern food production - time allowing of course!
Bilton Barns can offer 4 star silver award farmhouse B&B accommodation. If you prefer to stay
in a holiday cottage near Alnwick or self-catering accommodation on the beautiful Northumberland
coast then we can also offer an Alnmouth cottage and a Seahouses cottage. Click on the
accommodation button or ring Dorothy and Brian to book or discuss your holiday further - 01665 830427.
All accommodation is within easy reach of Alnwick, Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses, Bamburgh, The Farne
Islands, Holy Island, The Roman Wall and the Northumberland National Park. To enjoy the area fully
we recommend that you have the use of a car.
